Die styriarteSOAPs

The SOAPs are a new concert format introduced in this year’s styriarte programme. The title speaks for itself: the events will be entertaining, light (as light as possible), and colourful. Every SOAP mixes music in different small ensembles (songs, solo pieces, small to large chamber music, exceptionally orchestra) with pieces of text (in German language). The SOAPs will be presented like theatre plays, possibly in a TV studio, and offer an insight into exciting moments in different composer’s lives. The texts are mainly authentic quotes by the composers presented, or fictitious remarks these could possibly have made. Every SOAP consists of two parts lasting about one hour each, with a half-hour intermission. The audience sits on stands like in a Roman amphitheatre, placed across the Helmut List Hall, so that every seat is close to the stage. The 2012 SOAPs tell stories about the Mozart, Bach, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Wagner, and Strauss families. (In Japanese)
