Elisabeth Orth was born in 1936, as oldest daughter of the actor-couple Paula Wessely und Attila Hörbiger in vienna. She followed the footsteps of her famous parentes and graduated at the Max-Reinhardt-Seminar. After that, first engagements at Volkstheater and Theater der Courage in Wien followed. Other important theaters were Ulmer Theater, Bühnen der Stadt Köln, Schaubühne Berlin and Bayerische Staatsschauspiel München.
Elisabeth Orth debut at Wiener Burgtheater in 1965, since 1973 she is part of the ensemble at the famous house.
After many years at Schaubühne Berlin, Elisabeth Orth is playing on Burgtheater again - since the beginning of the age of Bachler. So she could be seen in many roles at Burgtheater. 2002, she also performed at Salzburger Festspiele.
Beside her theater engagements, Elisabeth Orth acted in many film- and TV-productions.
In 1997 she performed in Stefan Ruzowitzkys prizewinning homeland drama „Die Siebtelbauern“.
Elisabeth Orth is not only known as actress; she´s also known for her sociopolitical engagement against anit-semitism and xenophobia.
Furthermore the actress gives readings andg lectures and works as an author. In 1975 her book "Märchen ihres Lebens - Meine Eltern Attila Hörbiger und Paula Wessely" was released. Until 2000 she also was columnist at the catholik weekly newspaper „Die Furche“.
Elisabeth Orth was honored with numerous awardes and in 2010 she was elected for the radio-drama-actress of the year 2009 .
