Thomas Höft works as author, director and dramatic adviser in very different fields of art. He´s responsible for big historical theme-exhibitions in German and Austrian museums and wrote non-fiction books – for “Welt aus Eisen” he was honored with the Österreichischen Staatspreis Buchkunst. Above all, he got general known with numerous plays and opera librettos. He wrote an amended version of Suppé’s “Schöne Galathee” for the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the ballet “Circe and Odysseus” for the American composer Gerald Humel and the Berliner Komische Oper and for Siegfried Matthus the opera “Kronprinz Friedrich”, which was first performed by Götz Friedrich. 2006 followed the opera “Radek” with music by Richard Dünser at the Bregenzer Festspiele, and 2010 Thomas Höft’s new opera “Pünktchen und Anton”, following Erich Kästner, with music by the composer Iván Eröd, premiered at the Wiener Staatsoper.
Götz Friedrich encouraged him to direct and music theatre direction has taken an important place in Thomas Höfts producing. Since 1994 he has been working as dramatic adviser at the styriarte festival and since 2003 he has also been in this position at the psalm festival. From 1999 to 2001 he worked as artistic director of the Brandenburger Theater. In addition he worked as artistic director for the Kulturhauptstadtbewerbung Augsburg 2010 as well as artistic director of the Festjahr PAX 2005 in memoriam of the 450-year jubilee Augsburger Religionsfrieden.
