tells her stories about being a woman
The Norwegian singer Rebekka Bakken embodies the entire spectrum of femininity: from passionate sensuality to loving motherliness and spiritual desire. But she wouldn’t be able to express her femininity without including the male aspect – neither on stage nor in her songs. It is this duality that allows tension, differences and opposites to emerge. But the longing of spiritual desire aims at overcoming these opposites, leading back to unity. For PSALM, Rebekka Bakken has selected songs from her repertoire that deal with femininity and express it in music. She has also written new songs on the subject…
Rebekka Bakken – singer/songwriter with a three-octave vocal range who grew up in Norway – moved to New York in order to pursue her career as a singer and set out to conquer the world. Her magical way of conveying emotions and fascinating audiences with every performance is unique. Her debut album “The Art of How to Fall” won two gold records in Germany and Austria in 2003. She was also nominated for several ECHO Jazz prizes and for the Amadeus Award. “Most personal”, her most recent album, was released in 2016.
