Rainer Hauer

Born in Graz, Rainer Hauer studied in his hometown German studies, linguistics and philosophy and attended at the same time the acting school. As an actor and stage director, he worked in Nuremberg, Hanover, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Bochum, Berlin, at the Burgtheater in Vienna and at the Bad Hersfeld Festival. From 1975-1990 he was director of the Schauspielhaus Graz where he put on stage plays by Aeschylus, Shakespeare, Goethe, Ibsen, Dürrenmatt, Ionesco and Ernst Jandl. He also played roles such as Peer Gynt, Faust, Othello, Galileo, Nathan and Molière's "Bourgeois Gentilhomme" and worked with Fassbinder, Zadek, Gosch, Strehler and Peymann. He works also a lecturer in elocution at the Ruhr University in Bochum, the University of Music an Drama in Graz and at various drama schools in Vienna.
