Disturbed, dysfunctional, a case for the family judge and the department of social services; Hansel and Gretel, left in the forest by their parents, Eurydice, who betrays her frustrated musician-husband with the Father of the Gods, the Count von Gleichen, who marries a Muslim woman in a sham marriage even though he is already married to a Christian spouse, and the Eisenstein family with their rabble servants, a musical swinger club by Johann Strauss. Luckily, none of this is meant to be serious and, besides, the audience is in for a superb musical event. Michael Hofstetter directs the recreation orchestra and a wonderful young group of singers through the depths of familial delusions and confusions.

This event is followed by a party on the “fairground” in front of the festival hall. Barbecue and palaver until the curious family concepts offered by this year’s styriarte programme have been discussed from all perspectives.
