To escape religious persecution, Bach’s great-great-grandfather, the Hungarian master baker Vitus Bach, fled to Thuringia, where he settled down. One generation of Bachs followed the other until Johann Sebastian Bach was born. Bach’s first father-in-law, Johann Michael Bach and his uncle Johann Christoph Bach, as well as all of his sons – with the exception of Johann Christian, who was Catholic – wrote Lutheran church music. That the members of his family were all born musicians was a source of life-long pride for Bach. Come explore this family history with us, a family history written in motets.
We are offering a shuttle bus service to this concert. The price is EUR 8,- per person; the bus leaves at 7 p.m. in front of the Opera House Graz (Franz-Graf-Allee); return journey after the concert. Please make a reservation!
