chor pro musica graz was founded in 1979, since 1985 Gerd Kenda has been musical director. The choir focuses on vocal literature of the 19th and 20th centuries (Brahms/motets, Bruckner/motets, Debussy/Trois chansons, Distler/Totentanz, Hindemith/Six chansons, Mendelssohn/Lieder im Freien zu singen, Ravel/Trois chansons, Radulescu/German Mass). But the choir also has works of other epochs in its repertoire (Bach/St. John Passion & Christmas Oratorio, Mozart/Requiem, Fauré/Requiem, Handel/Messiah, Mendelssohn/Elias, Orff/Carmina Burana, Verdi/Requiem, Mahler/Symphony No. 2, Zebinger/Christmas Oratorio, First Performance).
In 2003 the choir sang the highly acclaimed world premiere of Arvo Paert’s “In principio” within “Graz 2003. Cultural Capital of Europe”. In the same year followed a performance of Brahms’ Zigeunerlieder at the styriarte festival and a concert series of Dvorák’s Requiem at the styriarte, at Neuberger Kulturtage and Oberösterreichische Stiftskonzerte, together with the orchestra recreation. Since then the choir has been a regular guest at styriarte Festival and at the easter Festival PSALM.
Concert tours to France, Italy, Iceland, Latvia, Poland, Sweden, and USA, as well as successful competitions (Alghero/Italy, Asti/Italy, Grafenegg/Austia, Spittal/Austria, Zadar/Croatia) are adding to the regional activities of the choir.
