He has worked with renowned orchestras and conductors: Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra London, Tokyo Symphony, Mariinsky Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Europe under Valery Gergiev, Sir Neville Marriner, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Jukka Pekka Saraste, Michael Gielen, Sir Charles Mackerras, John Axelrod, Paul Goodwin, Fabio Luisi and Philippe Jordan among others.
In the chamber music fields his partners include Julian Rachlin, Renaud Capuçon, Benjamin Schmid, Clemens Hagen, Isabelle van Keulen, Nils Mönkemeyer, Danjulo Ishizaka or the Ensemble Wien-Berlin.
In addition to that his eagerness to explore new territories ensure the development of sensational events outside the traditional classical repertoire: Scurdia brings together extraordinary musicians from all over the world.
With great pleasure he also works with singers and actors, f. e. Helen Schneider on various projects combining literature and music.
All of his CD recordings have won international prizes (among them the “German Record Critics’ Award”). His brandnew recording “The Mozart sessions” together with the uplifting US chamber orchestra A far cry has been released worldwide recently and is receiving rave reviews these weeks.
For his exceptional artistry Markus Schirmer also was awarded one of Austria’s most prestigious awards, the “Karl Böhm Interpretation Prize”.
In the upcoming season he will be performing in the United States, South Africa, Germany, Switzerland, Turkey, France, Australia, New Zealand, Qatar, Bahrain, Argentina, China and Austria.
In addition to his work as Professor of Piano at the Music University in his hometown Graz Markus Schirmer regularly gives international masterclasses for piano and is a sought after adjudicator at several prestigious piano competitions.
