…studied at the Musikhochschule Vienna. He was a founder member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra under Claudio Abbado. In 1987 he was appointed principal clarinettist of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. In 1988 he made his debut as soloist in the Vienna Musikvereinsaal playing the Mozart clarinet concerto.
He has been teaching at the Konservatorium in Eisenstadt (1994-97), in the performing department of the Musikhochschule Vienna (1997-2003) and has been appointed professor at the Kunsthochschule Graz in 2003. He has been a guest artist with both the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and the Concentus Musicus.
His many and various activities also encompass master-classes and he is much in demand as a juror at competitions. As a soloists he has worked with conductors such as Sawallisch, Fedosejev, Pretre, Graf, Traunfellner, Frühbeck de Burgos, Schirmer and has given chambermusic performances with Milan Turkovic, Ursula & Heinz Holliger, Ernst Kovacic, Christian Altenburger, J.Stancul, Hugo Wolf Quartet, Szymanovski Quartet, Eos Quartet, Auryn Quartet, Haydn Trio and the Wiener Klavier Trio. He is a regular guest at festivals such as the Salzburger Mozartwoche, Mozartwoche Tokyo, Schubert festival Washington, styriarte, Bregenzer Festspiele, Schubertiade Wien, Haydntage Eisenstadt, Klangbogen Wien, Kammermusiktage St. Gallen, Mondseetage, Tillysburg, Ernstbrunn.
He has given first performances of works by G.v.Einem and Ivan Eröd, amongst others. He is a member of the Ensemble Contrasts Wien, Bläsersolisten der Wiener Symphoniker, and Wiener Kammermusiker. He has made countless CD and radio recordings.
