Born in Emila Romagna, Monica Piccinini started to study the violin before she decided to follow a singing education by Franca Mattiucci and Elena Kriatchko in 1990. Supplementary she attended master classes for baroque music by Claudio Cavina and Rossana Bertini as well as for lied singing by Erika Werba.
After her starting years in Ensemble Concerto Italiano, established by Rinaldo Alessandrini, in 1999 she gave her debut at Teatro Real Madrid as Euridice in Monteverdi’s L’ORFEO conducted by Jordi Savall, with whom she collaborated regularly. Since then, Monica Piccinini focused on pieces of the Early Music and sang cantatas, oratorios and music theatre pieces of Monteverdi, Cavalli, Scarlatti, Pergolesi, Händel or Vivaldi.
In the last years, she was seen as Valletto-Fortuna/INCORONAZIONE DI POPPEA at Teatro Colon Salamanca, as Amore/LA VIRTU DEGLI STRALI D’AMORE at Teatro Malibran Venezia conducted by Fabio Biondi and as Claudia/MASSIMO PUPPIENO at Teatro Politeama Palermo. Besides that she sang Argene/L’OMPIADE at Theatre Krakow and Minerva-Fortuna-Melanto/IL RITORNO DI ULISSE IN PATRIA during the International Baroque Opera Festival Beaune. Together with the Munich Radio Orchestra, she performed Clori/CLORI, DORINO E AMORE and was seen as Bellezza/IL TRIONFO DEL TEMPO E DEL DISINGANNO at Theatre Vicenza.
Highlights of the last seasons include her debut as Morgana/ALCINA at Opéra Royal de Versailles, concert performances of MADDALENA AI PIEDI DI CRISTO in Bruges and Bremen under the baton of Ottavio Dantone, as well as a concert performance of VESPERO DELLA BEATA VERGINE conducted by Jordi Savall in Hamburg. Monica performed pieces of Pergolesi, Leo, Händel and Traetta with Talens Lyriques under Christophe Rousset at Concertgebouw Amsterdam. At Festival for Early Music Innsbruck she sang Venere/L’EURIDICE and gave her debut at La Scala Milan as Damigella in a new production of L’INCORONAZIONE DI POPPEA. She returned to International Baroque Opera Festival Beaune to sing VESPRO DELLA BEATA VIRGINE and participated in Händels IMENEO at Händel Festival in Halle.
Monica Piccinini constantly works with important ensembles and orchestras, such as Concerto Italiano, Europa Galante, Al Aire Espanol, Concerto Romano, Concerto Palatino, Chamber Orchestra Lausanne, Munich Radio Orchestra, Baroque Orchestra of the University Salamanca as well as La Capella Reial de Catalunya.
