How many depictions of the Madonna might there be in the world? There are just as many choral movements honouring Mary, covering an equally wide range of different styles and expressions. Erwin Ortner lets the blossoming sound of the Arnold Schoenberg Choir depict the Madonna with pure singing. They range from Josquin’s simple Ave Maria to the polyphonic Penderecki. At the heart of this evening is a double metamorphosis: Palestrina’s transformation of the choral “Assumpta est Maria” – first into a motet and then into a mass.
After the concert join us in the palace grounds for folk songs by Mendelssohn and Dvořák and enjoy a buffet with specialities from the delicatessen region Pöllauer Hirschbirne.
