Giuseppe Verdi: Overtures and ballet music from “Aida” & “I vespri siciliani”
Domenico Cimarosa: Concerto a due flauti in G major
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: Capriccio Italien, op. 45
As soon as Christmas is over, the Italian opera houses already start preparing for the carnevale stagione. In 1783, Domenico Cimarosa set the tone at La Scala in Milan. Tones as lively as in his double concerto for two flutes. Verdi’s ballet compositions for “Aida” and the “Sicilian Vespers” transform the Stefaniensaal into a veritable theatre, with Daniela Musca as the maestra behind the conductor’s stand. Tchaikovsky’s “Capriccio Italien” lets the southern sun shine down on Graz as early as mid-January.
Pre-concert talk in Stefaniensaal at 7.15 pm – admission free
