Feuer und Wassershare on facebook
She raises the roof in concert halls all over the world: percussionist Evelyn Glennie performs Tan Dun’s Water Concerto. Fire is provided by Richard Wagner (among others) with the finale from his Walküre. Keeping the elements in balance, Mei-Ann Chen on the podium.
Joseph Haydn: Symphony No. 59 in A major, “Fire”
Richard Wagner: Wotans farewell and fire music, from “The Valkyrie”
Johannes Brahms: Hungarioan Danve No. 5 in C major (arr. Parlow)
Tan Dun: Water Concerto for water percussion and orchestra
This music gets along like fire and water. Haydn and Wagner’s renderings of “Magic Fire“ rip through the Stefaniensaal like one of Brahms’s hot-blooded “Hungarians“. The fire is quenched by a mighty wave of sound created by the Chinese composer Tan Dun: Mei-Ann Chen has always wanted to conduct his Water Concerto in Graz – a feast for the eyes and ears, with none other than Evelyn Glennie on percussion.
