Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: from the Divertimento for String trio, K 563
World premieres by Hannes Kerschbaumer and Julia Purgina
Commissioned works from the styriarte Festival 2019
Pure Divertimento: in 1788, in the Viennese Alsergrund district, Mozart composed his magnificent string trio K. 563 with particularly elaborate variations over a very simple theme. In 2019, two composers pick up this thread, spin it further and present their own variations on Mozart’s Divertimento. This “Mozart morphing” results in top-class chamber music with contrasting styles and periods. Magnificently played by the Kreisler Trio Wien in the cosy atmosphere of Palais Attems.
Morphing is … actually a technology from the film world, the transformation of one figure over intermediate steps into another. We borrow the term for the styriarte 2019 and want to see what makes the sound world out of it …
