Joseph Hadyn never went to Paris and yet he wrote the most famous Paris symphonies. They are full of life: in the middle of the dramatic Symphony in G minor, a clucking hen even makes an entrance. Stefan Gottfried, who grew up with Nikolaus Harnoncourt’s radical interpretation of these masterpieces, is the conductor at the New Year’s concert in the Stefaniensaal. Between the two symphonies, we have phenomenal Russian violinist Nikita Boriso-Glebsky’s sparkling rendition of Bruch’s Violin Concerto No.1.
