Richard Wagner: Tannhäuser, Overture and Venusbergmusik
Franz Liszt: Piano concerto No. 2 in A major
Richard Wagner: Lohengrin, Prelude
Kaija Saariaho: Asteroid 4179 Toutatis
Jean Sibelius: Symphony No. 7 in C major, op. 105
Music of longing and sounds of salvation wherever you listen: in the delicate beginning of Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 2 and in the blurred contours of the “Lohengrin” prelude, in Sibelius’ last symphony and in the “Asteroid” composition by Kaija Saariaho from Finland. Eva Ollikainen, also from Finland, is a master student of Leif Segerstam and an expert in magnificent sounds and impressive build-ups. This has led her to becoming a regular conductor with the symphonic orchestras in Scandinavia and with major opera houses from Dresden to Stockholm. Her quiet style is the perfect counterpart to the lively agility of the brilliant Liszt recitalist Bernd Glemser.
