Weihnachtsoratorium

Shows

die Mitglieder von Recreation auf der Stiege im Grazer Congress Recreation - Das Orchester takes on cantatas 4 to 6 from Johann Sebastian Bach 1746, mit Rätselkanon (Ölgemälde von Elias Gottlob Haußmann) Johann Sebastian Bach's wonderful cycle Christmas Oratorio.

Short-term cast change

Jordi Savall had to cancel his participation in the project "Christmas Oratorio" on 5 and 6 January 2022 in the Minoritensaal in Graz with a heavy heart due to an illness that makes it impossible for him to travel to Austria at the moment. Styriarte would like to thank Michael Hell for taking over the direction of this production at such short notice.

In place of the alto Raffaele Pe, who was also unable to attend, Ms. Margot Oitzinger stepped into the production at very short notice.

Programme

What to expect:

Johann Sebastian Bach: Cantata 4 to 6 from “Christmas oratorio”, BWV 248

Maria Ladurner

Soprano

Excellent stylistics and a brightly shining vocal sound are the qualities with which Maria Ladurner has rushed from success to success in the baroque and classical repertoire. In addition to guest appearances at numerous European houses, she also made her Styriarte debut in 2020 at the Festival opening with the leading role in J. J. Fux's "Gifts of the Night".

Margot Oitzinger

Mezzo-soprano

The mezzo-soprano has a love for early music: the Graz-born singer has made a name for herself both as a concert singer and as an opera interpreter and works with renowned conductors such as the exceptional talent Jordi Savall. Polyphonic and early baroque ensemble singing are as much a part of her daily routine as the works of high baroque masters as a soloist.

Markus Volpert

Bariton

The baritone Markus Volpert is well known for his broad repertoire and impresses with his experience as concert singer, which he gained by working with renowned conductors.

Camerata Styria

Choir

Masters rarely fall from the sky. Camerata Styria has achieved this rare feat under Sebastian Meixner's direction. Since its first concerts in 2020, the year it was founded, the young choir has delighted audiences with the splendour of its sound and dynamic richness.

Sebastian Meixner

Choir direction

The music teacher and computer scientist, whose main instrument is the piano, has a golden touch for leading groups of people in song. He proves this as co-founder of the youth choir nota bene as well as with his brand new ensemble, the Camerata Styria, which he formed from former members of the Landesjugendchor Cantanima.

Michael Hell

Direction, Harpsichord, Recorder

Michael Hell, born in North Rhine-Westphalia, is a virtuoso on both the recorder and the harpsichord whose reputation extends far beyond his adopted home of Graz. He is also a leading expert in basso continuo and historical performance practice, who knows how to convey the rules and history of his art with infectious enthusiasm.

Recreation - Das Orchester

Orchestra

Recreation is special in many ways: consisting of musicians whose nationalities range from Japan to Venezuela, most of the members received part of their training in Graz. After its formation in 2002, the collective played unique halls such as the Alte Oper Frankfurt and worked with outstanding conductors.

Content

between New Year and Epiphany

Bach’s Christmas Oratorio in January? Recreation under Michael Hell's direction brings Parts 4 to 6 at the right time, between New Year and Epiphany. Those in the know have always maintained that these parts are just as deserving of recognition as Parts 1 to 3. Parts 4 to 6 contain the most rewarding arias for tenor Gernot Heinrich und soprano Maria Ladurner. Camerata Styria can look forward to singing three of Bach’s most beautiful opening choruses and wonderful chorales.
