Recreation - the NEW Season

YOUNG. COLOURFUL. FEMALE.

Fantastic young musicians from Austria are leaving their mark on our new season. Oboist Katharina Kratochwil plays Mozart’s Oboe Concerto, double bass player Dominik Wagner the second Bottesini concerto. Moldovan violinist Alexandra Tirsu also studied in Vienna. Conductors Tobias Wögerer and Ingmar Beck come to us from Linz, cellist Ursina Braun and conductor Lena-Lisa Wüstendörfer from Switzerland. Recreation’s orchestral concerts are creating a stage for the younger generation, also and especially for women on the podium.

This season’s programmes are seductive, sporty and elegant: our chief conductor Mei-Ann Chen dedicates one evening to the immortal opera character Carmen, another to the symphonic dances of Jennifer Higdon and Sergei Rachmaninov. Russian Galina Ustvolskaya called her orchestral suite “Sport” – a fitting answer to Tchaikovsky’s powerful Fifth in Italian-Turkish conductor Nil Venditti’s programme. Rachel Portman is the only woman to have received the Oscar for Best Original Score. Her violin concerto on the four elements, which will be performed at the season finale, is worthy of a film. Or to put it in a nutshell: “Recreation of the mind” is guaranteed at all concerts!
