Beethoven with power and enthusiasm

Bernd Glemser does not handle his Beethoven with kid gloves: his Emperor Concerto is brimming with imperial power and dignity. Mei-Ann Chen, too, loves the sudden attack. She frames the Piano Concerto No. 5 with two famous Beethoven overtures: the Coriolan, in a new interpretation by the Korean composer Unsuk Chin, a 5-minute explosion subito con forza, and the Egmont, culminating in the Victory Symphony. And enthusiasm for Beethoven exaltation knows no bounds.

Bernd Glemser

Piano

Absolute freedom and absolute control - these are apparently not opposites in Bernd Glemser's brilliant piano playing. The Swabian, born in 1962, won all the piano prizes at an early age and has since performed on the world's greatest stages. And audiences and the press are constantly amazed by the unrivalled quality and poetry of his performances.

Recreation - Das Orchester

Orchestra

Recreation is special in many ways: consisting of musicians whose nationalities range from Japan to Venezuela, most of the members received part of their training in Graz. After its formation in 2002, the collective played unique halls such as the Alte Oper Frankfurt and worked with outstanding conductors.

Mei-Ann Chen

Conductor

Born in Taiwan, Mei-Ann Chen has lived in the US since 1989 and holds a doctorate in music (conducting) and a master’s degree in violin performance. One of America’s most promising young conductors, she was the first woman to win the Malko International Conductors Competition and has been appointed chief conductor of Recreation Graz beginning fall 2021.
