Gabrielle Kancachian
The Cologne-based Australian musician is a versatile artist who graduated from the Cologne University of Music with a degree in violin and viola. She has participated in award-winning CD productions and has performed with Concerto Köln and Anima Eterna, among others. Gabrielle performs at international festivals and in prestigious concert halls such as the Elbphilharmonie.

Cologne-based Australian musician Gabrielle Kancachian is a versatile artist who studied violin and viola at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln in Cologne and Aachen. Her musical passion and stylistic range span a broad arc from Baroque to contemporary music, with a special focus on historically informed performance (HIP). She has played in numerous prizewinning CD productions and performed extensively with Concerto Köln, Anima Eterna and Cecilia Bartoli’s Les Musicienes du Prince-Monaco, et al. and also plays regularly as a guest with the WDR Funkhausorchester and the Kölner Kammerorchester. Gabrielle Kancachian is presently working on a solo program and an experimental crossover project for viola & bass.
As principal violist Gabrielle Kancachian has played with Dorothee Oberlinger’s Ensemble 1700 and since 2016 in renowned Australian early music groups, including Pinchgut Opera, the Australian Haydn Ensemble and the Bach Akademie Australia, in both concert and opera productions. Since 2017 she has been a permanent member of the Deutsche Händel-Solisten in Karlsruhe.
In her long and active international career Gabrielle Kancachian has performed at many of the world’s most prestigious festivals and famed concert halls, including Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Musikverein Vienna, Lincoln Center NY and the Sydney Opera House. In 2021 she is set play with the Australian World Orchestra conducted by Zubin Mehta at the Edinburgh Festival and the BBC Proms. In the same year concerts with ongoing chamber music partners including Dorothee Oberlinger, Dmitry Sinkovsky, Marco Testori and Andreas Scholl are planned, e.g. at Festivals in Beaune, Gent and at the Wiener Konzerthaus.
Gabrielle Kancachian currently plays an historical Baroque viola made by Jakob Weiss, Salzburg (1720) and a modern instrument by Falk Peters (1993).
