About the artist
between tradition and sonic exploration
Born into a family of musicians in Paris, Garance Boizot began studying viola da gamba and cello at the age of seven. Her dual expertise on both instruments opened up a wide range of musical paths early on – from orchestra and string quartet to gamba consort and an extensive chamber music practice.
Throughout her training, she benefited from the guidance of numerous influential musicians, including Christine Plubeau at the Paris Conservatory, Olivier Schneebeli in the context of performances at the Royal Chapel of Versailles, and Wieland Kuijken in masterclasses. She also received important artistic input from Paolo Pandolfo and Juan Manuel Quintana.
She has participated in various ensembles and projects, including Koechel 440, La Banda Ariosa, and World Opera Lab, where she also performed in interdisciplinary formats alongside dancers and storytellers. She is currently a regular member of Le Voci delle Grazie, an ensemble dedicated to Italian vocal music of the 16th and 17th centuries.
These diverse experiences have led her to perform at renowned festivals across Europe, including the JAN EFF Festival, the MA Fringe Festival in Bruges, the Vivat Curlandia Festival in Latvia, and the Utrecht Early Music Festival.
After studying at the regional conservatory of Paris, she completed a Bachelor’s degree at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague with Mieneke van der Velden and Philippe Pierlot. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Viola da gamba at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Lyon, studying with Marianne Muller.
