Markus Wallner is an in-demand sound engineer, who switches effortlessly between a variety of music styles such as jazz, contemporary music, pop music — and much more. Alongside his award-winning work as a producer and recording engineer, he enriches the live performances of many bands and ensembles with his sophisticated technique and keen ear.

He works as a sound engineer in both live and studio technology throughout Austria, and for the Vienna Symphonic Library. Live work has taken him to renowned festivals such as the Jazz Festival Saalfelden, the South Tyrol Jazz Festival, the INNtöne Jazz Festival, the Glatt & Verkehrt Festival, Klangspuren Schwaz and the Jazzwerkstatt Wien.

He collaborates closely with the Austrian jazz group Shake Stew and with Klangforum Wien, and also with the ensemble Cinquecento, the Villa-Lobos Trio, the avant-garde pop band 5K HD, the jazz quartet Kompost 3, the Viennese band 5/8erl in Ehr’n and the songwriter Voodoo Jürgens. From 2010 to 2022 he worked with Elvis Presley’s TCB Band.

Markus Wallner was born in Lower Austria, and as a child studied first flute, then piano and violin, later switching to viola. He studied at the HTL Elektrotechnik, going on to the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna to study sound engineering, with subsidiary viola and piano.

Markus Wallner won the German Record Critics’ Award with both Klangforum Wien (Clara Iannotta: Moult) and Shake Stew (Gris Gris), and was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award for ‘Best Classical Album’ with the Villa-Lobos Trio. In 2021 Shake Stew were awarded the German Jazz Award in the category ‘International Band of the Year’, and in 2023 they were awarded the Amadeus Austrian Music Award.
