Alfia Bakieva

Born in Novosibirsk, the tartarian multi-instrumentalist currently lives in Salzburg. Especially as a violinist, she impresses with her versatility and inspires with both Tatar music with her folk music ensemble Ekiyat and with the Argentinian tango orchestra Rascasuelos, and as a soloist in baroque music ensembles such as Jordi Savall's Concert des Nations.

versatile violinist

Career

Alfia Bakieva is a violinist of Tatar origin and currently lives in Salzburg, Austria. She studied violin with E. Baskina at the Novosibirsk Music School and Baroque violin with Enrico Onofri (Palermo Conservatory) and Hiro Kurosaki (Mozarteum University), specialising in historically informed performance practice in Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and Romantic music. As a multi-instrumentalist, she specialises in folk music and plays the folk violin, kylkobiz, ghizzhak and similar instruments. She is also a founding member of the folk music ensemble Ekiyat, which is dedicated to Tatar traditions.

Awards

From 2004 to 2008, she was assistant concertmaster and solo violinist with Musica Aeterna at the Novosibirsk State Opera and Ballet Theatre, conducted by Teodor Currentzis. Alfia has received several scholarships, including one from the Shostakovich family at the 7th International Dmitri Shostakovich Quartet Competition. In 2017, she was a finalist at the Early Music Competition in Bruges. In 2018, she won all three chamber music prizes at the Göttingen Handel Competition. In 2023, she was nominated for the ‘Addicted to Bach’ Prize, sponsored by the family of Nobel Prize winner Günter Blobel.

On stage

Alfia has a passion for tango and collaborates with the Argentine tango orchestra Rascasuelos, led by Patricio Bonfiglio, with whom she performed at the Roskilde Rock Festival in Copenhagen in 2018. In 2021, Alfia took part in the Jumpstart Jr. Foundation Auditions in Amsterdam and was awarded a Francesco Ruggeri violin (1680) for a period of seven years. In 2024, Alfia recorded a solo album featuring the violin concertos of Antonio Vivaldi with Les Musiciennes du Concert des Nations, conducted by Jordi Savall. In January 2025, Alfia was invited to perform concerts on Mozart’s ‘Dalla Costa’ violin (1764) at the Salzburg Mozart Foundation for the Mozart Festival. She is currently a soloist, concertmaster and section leader with various orchestras, including Il Pomo d’Oro, Ensemble Hemiolia, Les Musiciennes du Concert des Nations, Il Concerto Scirocco, ArtHouse17 (Michael Hell and Thomas Höft), Cappella Mediterranea, Dresden Festival Orchestra, Bonne Corde, Ensemble Ludovice and many more.
