The Serbian violist performs brilliantly in the ranks of renowned ensembles such as the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. Trained at the Mozarteum and in Hamburg, the multi-award-winning member of the Camerata Salzburg conquers baroque worlds of sound as an accomplished exotic on the viola d'amore.

Career

Originally from Belgrade (Serbia), Danka Nikolic initially received her musical training at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg with Prof. Thomas Riebl, with whom she was also engaged as his assistant during her studies. She continued her studies at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre with Prof. Thomas Selditz, where she graduated with distinction in 2008.

She has won numerous national and international competitions.

On stage

Danka Nikolic is a regular guest at international festivals (Hagen open, Dialoge Salzburg, Styrian Chamber Music Festival, etc.) both as a soloist and as a chamber musician. Her chamber music partners include renowned musicians such as Eliot Fisk, Stefan Schilli, Juan Diego Florez, Thomas Selditz and Lukas Hagen.

She is a member of the Camerata Salzburg, principal viola with the Deutsche Kammerakademie Neuss and a regular guest with various orchestras such as the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble and the Basel Chamber Orchestra as principal viola.

Danka Nikolic is a founding member of the Schallmoos String Trio and the Ensemble Quirin. She attaches particular importance to historical performance practice and plays baroque viola and viola d'amore.
