Werner Neugebauer, violin

The accomplished violinist acquired stylistic versatility between baroque and modern from Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Ernst Kovacic, among others. With the Hyperion Ensemble, Camerata Salzburg, Klangforum Wien and Concentus Musicus, he has performed more than 1,000 concerts across the globe. The multi-faceted instrumentalist also enjoys playing folk music, Viennese chanson and big band.

Career

Werner Neugebauer (born 1967 in Graz) studied concert music at the Mozarteum University with Irmgard Gahl. At the same time, he focussed intensively on the baroque violin and received lessons from Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Hiro Kurosaki. He completed postgraduate studies with Ernst Kovacic at the Vienna Academy of Music.

On stage

This was followed by an extensive international concert career as a member of the Camerata Salzburg, Neugebauer played in stylistically specialised ensembles such as the Klangforum Wien, the Enselmble Baroque de Limoges and the Concentus Musicus.

From 1996, he was increasingly active as a chamber musician and was invited to numerous renowned festivals such as the Styriarte and the Salzburg Mozart Week. The ensembles Scaramouche, piano trio Trio Fontaine and the New Classic Ensemble Vienna form a further focus of his chamber music activities. He has been a member of the Hyperion Ensemble since 1998. He has performed at the Vienna Konzerthaus, Concertgebow Amsterdam, Stefaniensaal Graz, Yale University USA, Beethovenhaus Bonn and the Vienna Musikverein.

Teaching activities

He has been teaching at the Mozarteum University since 1993 and has been leading his own violin class in pre-college and violin pedagogy since 2006. Professor at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz since 2018.
