Dimitri Psonis

Born in Athens, Dimitri Psonis studied music education, marimba and contemporary music and is today one of the best santoor players in the world. He has contributed to numerous soundtracks, including the film "The Kite Runner", whose score was nominated for an Oscar.

Dimitri Psonis began his musical studies in his hometown Athens. He then studied music education with Mari Tominaga, vibraphone with Gary Burton, marimba with Robert Van Sice and Peter Prommel, and contemporary music with Yannis Xenakis. He has contributed to soundtracks for numerous films, including the 2007 film "The Kite Runner", whose score was nominated for an Oscar, among others. As one of the best santur players in the world, he regularly works with Jordi Savall and his ensembles Hespèrion XXI and Le Concert des Nations, as well as with other formations of the early music scene, such as Sema, Speculum or L'Orchestre Baroque de Limoges.

In addition to his teaching activities at various institutions, he regularly participates in conferences on Oriental music.

He accompanies numerous singers and musicians such as Elefthería Arvanitaki, Maria del Mar Bonet, Eliseo Parra or Javier Paxariño. In recent years, he has increasingly devoted himself to the study and interpretation of classical Ottoman music, as well as popular Greek and Turkish music and their instruments.
