Career

Fabian Johannes Egger was born in 2007 in Traunstein in the Chiemgau region. At the age of just ten, he was admitted to the gifted programme at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Since 2023, he has been studying flute in the Bachelor’s programme (performance track) at the University of Music and Theatre Munich.

Competitions and awards

As a prizewinner of numerous national and international competitions, he has repeatedly had the opportunity to perform with renowned orchestras in Germany and abroad. These include the Orchestre de Chambre de Genève, with which he gave the world premiere of a concertino dedicated to him by the Swiss composer Blaise Mettraux, and the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra, with which he appeared as a prizewinner of the international Concertino Praga at the Rudolfinum in Prague. Most recently, in summer 2024, he performed as third prizewinner at the “Eurovision Young Musicians” competition in Bodø, Norway, with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra at the Stormen Concert Hall, and in September at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf with the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra. There, as the youngest finalist of the prestigious international Aeolus Competition, he received all three main prizes: first prize, the audience award, and the special prize for the best interpretation of a contemporary work (his own composition).

At the Fanny Mendelssohn Förderpreis (February 2026), he was awarded for his concept “Leben ist nicht genug” (“Life is not enough”), including a debut CD production in 2026. The US magazine Flute Almanac named him “Emerging Artist of the Year 2025”.

Scholarships and support

His artistic career is supported by renowned institutions, including the German Music Foundation (Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben), the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes), the Mozart Society Dortmund, the International Music Academy Liechtenstein, and the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation “Live Music Now” in Munich, as well as Villa Musica Rhineland-Palatinate (from the 2025/26 season). He is also a prizewinner of the VP Bank Opus Award.

Concerts and outlook

As a soloist, Fabian Johannes Egger has already performed across Europe with numerous orchestras. Extensive concert tours to Japan and Taiwan are planned for autumn and winter 2026.

He also has extensive experience as an orchestral musician (e.g. in the Federal Youth Orchestra and the Concertgebouw Young) as well as in chamber music in a wide variety of ensembles. As a creatively minded artist, it is important to him to bring the world of music closer to those who often have only limited access to it.
