About the artist
Violinist from an early age
Markus Hoffmann, born in Siegen in 1966, began his studies at the Cologne Musikhochschule at the age of sixteen with Prof. Franzjosef Maier, the participation in whose orchestra, “Collegium Aureum”, awoke his interest in baroque music. Inspired by this experience he became a founding member of Concerto Köln in 1985.
After completing his diploma in 1989 he continued studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna, where he has since then lived. Along with countless chamber and solo performances on violin and viola he is also a member of the “Wiener Akademie”. He founded the “Pleyel-Trio Wien”, a piano trio on historical instruments, in 1998.
Since 2006 he has served as concertmaster of Concerto Köln. Concert tours and participation in international festivals with Concerto Köln and other ensembles led him already in all parts of the world. A large number of radio and CD recordings completes its eclectic musical activity.
