Soprano Miriam Kutrowatz

The freshness and expressiveness of her singing, combined with great acting skills, predestine the young Viennese for opera. She made her debut as Zerlina in 'Don Giovanni in Nöten' at the Styriarte, followed by Vivaldi's 'Magnificat' and Handel's 'Alexander's Feast'. In the 2022/23 season, she will make her debut at the Vienna State Opera as Mozart's Papagena and most recently appeared at the Zurich Opera in Handel's Serse.

FRESH SOPRANO, BORN FOR THE STAGE

Praised for her “crystal clear soprano” (Falter / Bachtrack) and “glittering coloratura” (Der Tagesspiegel), Viennese soprano Miriam Kutrowatz is in high demand on concert and operatic stages across Europe.Miriam’s 2025-26 season begins with a gala concert at Domplatz St. Pölten with the Tonkünstler-Orchester, whom she rejoins later in the season for their renowned New Year concert series. She returns to the Vienna Musikverein for a concert featuring works by Vivaldi and Corelli with Ensemble Prisma, and to the Vienna Konzerthaus for Bach’s Weihnachtsoratorium and for “Sing on Stage – Ein Fest für Händel.” Other highlights include Haydn’s Paukenmesse with Wiener Akademie, Handel’s Messiah with styriarte, and Bach’s St John Passion with Philharmonie Salzburg. On the opera stage, she makes debuts in the title role of J.C. Bach’s Zanaida with Kammerakademie Potsdam and at Opéra National de Montpellier as Zerlina in Don Giovanni.

Recent operatic highlights include Atalanta in Xerxes and Euridice in L’Orfeo for Opernhaus Zürich; Edwige in Robinson Crusoe for Komische Oper Berlin; Arsena in Johann Strauss’ Der Zigeunerbaron and Marie in Karneval in Rom for the Johann Strauss Festjahr 2025; and Papagena in a European tour of Die Zauberflöte with Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen under Tarmo Peltokoski.

On the concert platform, Miriam regularly collaborates with Semyon Bychkov, performing ‘Mater Gloriosa’ in Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and with the Czech Philharmonic in Prague, and Bach’s Mass in B minor with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and on tour and recording with the Czech Philharmonic. She has also appeared with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 under Klaus Mäkelä; sung the soprano solo in Schoenberg’s Die Jakobsleiter under Ingo Metzmacher at the Elbphilharmonie; and performed Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem with the Orkiestra i Chór Filharmonii Krakowskiej under Christoph Alstaedt. Other highlights include Deianira in La Lotta d’Ercole at the Cologne Philharmonie under Rubén Dubrovsky and performances at the Vienna Musikverein and Konzerthaus with conductors including Philippe Jordan, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, and Erwin Ortner.

As a member of the Wiener Staatsoper Opera Studio, Miriam performed roles including Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), Giannetta (L’elisir d’amore), Najade (Ariadne auf Naxos), Barbarina (Le nozze di Figaro), the Sandman (Hänsel und Gretel), and Konstanze (Die Entführung aus dem Serail). From 2020–2022, she was a member of the Young Ensemble at Theater an der Wien, where her roles included Idaspe (Il Bajazet), Marie (Der Waffenschmied), First Niece (Peter Grimes), L’Amour (Orphée et Eurydice), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Suzanne (Thérèse Raquin), and Alinda (Il Giasone). In 2021, she made her Salzburg Festival debut as part of the Young Singers Project, singing the role of Stern in the children’s opera Vom Stern der nicht leuchten konnte. Further operatic roles include Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel) at the Schönbrunn Palace Theatre and Morgana (Alcina) at the JOpera Festival.

Miriam Kutrowatz was a multiple prize-winner at the Innsbruck Festival’s International Cesti Competition for Baroque Opera (2019) and a semi-finalist at the Glyndebourne Opera Cup (2020). She completed her

Bachelor’s degree with KS Edith Lienbacher and her Master’s with Florian Boesch at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. She has attended masterclasses with Marjana Mijanovic, Malcolm Martineau, and Brigitte Fassbaender, among others, and received training in contemporary dance from Austrian choreographer Doris Uhlich.
