Composer Peter Jakober

His composition "Puls 4" for 14 trumpets, 14 trombones and 7 tubas was premiered at musikprotokoll as part of steirischer herbst; other works have been presented at Wien Modern and Klangspuren Schwaz. Since studying with Georg Friedrich Haas and Gerd Kühr, the Styrian composer Peter Jakober has established himself as a highly regarded creator of contemporary sound worlds.

Architect of New Sounds

Peter Jakober, born in Austria in 1977, lives in Vienna. He studied composition with Georg Friedrich Haas and Gerd Kühr from 1998 to 2006. His works have been performed at numerous renowned festivals by ensembles such as Klangforum Wien, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the phace ensemble, ensemble recherche, the Aleph Guitar Quartet, and the JACK Quartet.

His piece “Saitenraum 2” for 60 string players opened Wien Modern 2023 simultaneously in all three concert halls of the Vienna Konzerthaus. His music theatre work Populus won the Johann-Joseph-Fux Opera Composition Prize in 2018. He also creates music for performances.

Jakober received the Erste Bank Composition Prize in 2015 and the Arnold Schoenberg Prize of the City of Vienna in 2024, and was a fellow at the Akademie Schloss Solitude.

At Styriarte 2027, Peter Jakober, together with Annette Schönmüller, is the curator for contemporary music at Haus Styriarte.
