About the Ensemble
most renowned ensemble for contemporary music
STUDIO PERCUSSION graz was founded by Günter Meinhart and is one of the most renowned ensembles for contemporary music. In addition to the classical repertoire of 20th century percussion works, the focus is on interdisciplinary projects and - since its foundation - on collaborations with young national and international composers who write new works especially for STUDIO PERCUSSION graz. Here, the mutual artistic exchange between musician and composer takes centre stage.
STUDIO PERCUSSION graz regularly performs under its director Günter Meinhart at various festivals in Austria and abroad. The standard line-up of six percussionists is sometimes expanded up to ten percussionists or combined with other instruments.
STUDIO PERCUSSION graz has been running its own percussion school in Graz since 1993. Musical and artistic support is provided here from pre-school age through to university preparation. Numerous prize-winners in solo and ensemble competitions, as well as a new generation of outstanding percussionists in the classical, jazz and popular music fields, have emerged from the STUDIO PERCUSSION school, which has been presenting the Night of percussion since 2007 for the purpose of international communication and the presentation of high-calibre percussionists to the public. In 2009, Günter Meinhart launched the 1st Austrian Percussion Camp as a new educational and informative platform.
