Thaïs Bauer
The Graz-based pianist's bold, unconventional approach to her music defies all boundaries between classical music, jazz and pop. Thaïs-Bernarda Bauer's creative curiosity has taken her to the legendary New York jazz club Birdland. Here in Germany, she makes the Eurythmics sound like baroque in the duo DESUSTU with accordionist Alexander Christof.
About the artist
Pianist with a love for a wide variety of styles
Thaïs-Bernarda Bauer was born in Graz in 1989.
Her first private lessons at the age of five with Rita Melem (University of Music and Performing Arts Graz) were followed by studies at the Johann-Joseph-Fux Conservatory with Dieter Müller. She completed her piano studies (IGP) with honours under Prof. Eike Straub at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.
During her studies, she attended masterclasses (with Judy Chin-Cottet, Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris, among others), as well as further lessons in other styles outside of classical music (jazz and stride piano with André Jeanquartier). In addition to her teaching activities, Thaïs Bauer is involved in numerous musical projects in various formations, bands, musical theatre performances and music management (Art Gleichenberg Festival).
She combines her love of a wide variety of styles and her musical experience with the Duo DESUSTU, a duo consisting of accordion and piano, which she founded in 2014. This exciting chamber music formation has already brought her to numerous stages, including the Stefaniensaal Graz.
Ms Bauer has been teaching a piano class at Gleisdorf Music School since March 2018.
