About the artist

Pianist with a love for a wide variety of styles

Thaïs-Bernarda Bauer was born in Graz in 1989. Following early private piano lessons and studies at the Johann-Joseph-Fux Conservatory, she pursued a degree in Classical Piano Performance and Music Education (IGP) with Prof. Eike Straub at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. During her studies, she expanded her musical horizons through masterclasses and by exploring styles beyond classical music, including jazz and stride piano.

Her diverse musical influences are reflected in her arrangements and compositions for a wide range of ensembles. Highlights of her work include commissions in the field of film music, such as Meine jüdische Familie, directed by Fritz Aigner and premiered on ORF III in November 2023, as well as an award for an “artistically particularly innovative composition” at the composition competition for a musical signature tune for the Medical University of Graz.

As pianist and composer of the duo Desustu, Bauer plays a leading role in developing its programmes and arrangements, including Suite Dreams. She also performs and composes for the crossover jazz band Tuesday Microgrooves, which appeared on ORF as part of International Jazz Day 2021 with the programmes Raw Book of Music I & II and Game of Tones.

In 2023, her solo programme What If premiered at the Don’t Tell Mama club in New York.
