„Fairest Isle, all isles excelling!“

These were the words used by Henry Purcell to sing of England, his native land, in “King Arthur”, and he was also referring to the music of England. Michael Hell invokes the spirit of England as the masters of the baroque era understood it: high speed, perfect style und entertainment.

Recreation - Das Orchester

Orchestra

Recreation is special in many ways: consisting of musicians whose nationalities range from Japan to Venezuela, most of the members received part of their training in Graz. After its formation in 2002, the collective played unique halls such as the Alte Oper Frankfurt and worked with outstanding conductors.

Michael Hell, born in North Rhine-Westphalia, is a virtuoso on both the recorder and the harpsichord whose reputation extends far beyond his adopted home of Graz. He is also a leading expert in basso continuo and historical performance practice, who knows how to convey the rules and history of his art with infectious enthusiasm.
