Supported by:

Maria Ladurner

Soprano

Excellent stylistics and a brightly shining vocal sound are the qualities with which Maria Ladurner has rushed from success to success in the baroque and classical repertoire. In addition to guest appearances at numerous European houses, she also made her Styriarte debut in 2020 at the Festival opening with the leading role in J. J. Fux's "Gifts of the Night".

Miriam Kutrowatz

Soprano

The freshness and expressiveness of her singing, combined with exceptional acting skills, predestine the 1997-born Viennese for opera. Her stunning Zerlina was a highlight of the semi-concert "Don Giovanni in Nöten" at the Styriarte 2020. Her repertoire already ranges from Handel to Humperdinck.

Sophie Rennert

Mezzosporan

Daniel Johannsen

Tenor

The Viennese learned from all-time legends such as Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Christa Ludwig and Robert Holl. He is undoubtedly one of the most important interpreters of the Lied by Franz Schubert, with which he also delights and touches the Styriarte audience time and again. In addition, his lyric tenor is in demand internationally in oratorio and opera productions.

Thomas Stimmel

Bass

Arnold Schoenberg Chor

Choir

The differentiation and plasticity with which Erwin Ortner's hand-picked ensemble of voices realises choral works from all epochs is unrivalled. The Arnold Schoenberg Choir, founded in 1972 and a regular guest at the Styriarte festival for decades, has won countless prizes - including the Grammy in 2002 for a St Matthew Passion under Nikolaus Harnoncourt.

Erwin Ortner

Direction

The doyen of Austrian choral music has been closely associated with the Styriarte festival for decades - also thanks to the congenial, "Grammy"- and "Echo"-award-winning collaboration of his Arnold Schoenberg Choir with Nikolaus Harnoncourt. Erwin Ortner is also Hofkapellmeister in Vienna and was the rector of the Vienna University of Music for many years.

Styriarte Festspiel-Orchester

Orchestra

Styriarte's orchestral "Supergroup" is made up of changing international star guests and musicians from the first-class fund of the Recreation orchestra, depending on need and occasion. The orchestra's tuning and choice of instruments follow the historical requirements of the works performed.

Jordi Savall

Viola da Gamba & Conductor

There is no early music fan who does not know the name Jordi Savall. There is no award that the "Ambassador of the European Union for Cultural Dialogue" has not won in the course of his world career. So it is all the more enjoyable that the Catalan, born in 1941, has been one of the Styriarte's closest and most loyal friends for decades.

Content

three baroque masterpieces:

Memories of Nikolaus Harnoncourt inevitably arise when the audience gathers in Schloss Stainz for the styriarte’s annual church concert. This year it is Jordi Savall’s turn to pay tribute to the spirit of Stainz. He conducts three baroque masterpieces for the vespers of the Virgin: Handel’s Roman Dixit Dominus with its phenomenal choruses, Fux’s Viennese Nisi Dominus from his vespers for Ash Wednesday and Vivaldi’s Venetian Magnificat. 60 minutes of the most expressive baroque music, providing the choir, the orchestra and the soloists with infinite opportunities for drama and virtuosity.

The performance lasts approximately 60 minutes without an interval.
