Oratorios, concerts and operas: the Slovakian mezzo-soprano’s repertoire ranges from works of the Baroque to the Classical and Romantic periods, to music of the 20th century, and includes a wide variety of roles, such as that of Dorabella in Mozart’s “Così fan tutte”.

Career

Jaroslava Pepper was born in Michalovce, Slovakia. After attending the Academy of arts in Banska Bystrica (Slovakia) and University of musical arts in Bratislava (VSMU, Slovakia) studying chant in the class of Prof. V. Stracenska (1999 – 2003) she continued her studies in Graz (Austria) at the University of Music and performing arts (2003 – 2006) in operatic chant in the class of Prof. C. Rüggeberg, Prof. Ch. Pöppelreiter and Prof. W. Schmid. She made her studies round by attending the Lied- class of Prof. G. Zeller and the oratorio-class of Prof. K.H. Donauer (2006 – 2008).

During her studies Jaroslava Pepper attended several master classes; in 2007 she got a scholarship from the American Insitute of Musical studies (AIMS) in Graz in the classes of G. Pisarenko, Dr. R. Young and Bodo Igesz.

Opera

The repertoire of Jaroslava Pepper contains many roles of operas and works from the baroque, classicism, romanticism and music of the 20th century. She performed e.g. Dorabella in Mozarts ‘Cosi fan tutte’, Orfeo in Glucks ‘Orfeo ed Euridice’, Rosi in Mia Schmidt’s debut performance ‘Fall Franza’, Ramiro in Mozarts ‘Die Gärtnerin aus Liebe’, Cherubino in Mozarts ‘Le nozze di Figaro’, Third Lady in Mozarts ‘Die Zauberflöte’ as well as Fourth Scolatella and Fourth Woman in Henze’s ‘Il re cervo’ and Hohepriesterin in Geworkian’s ‘Tarot’.

Concert

In November 2009 she debuted as Third Court Lady in Henze’s ‘Der Prinz von Homburg’, conducted by M. Albrecht and staged by Ch. Loy at the ‘Theater an der Wien’. In April 2010 Jaroslava Pepper appeared as ‘Bridesmaid’ in C.M. von Weber’s ‘Der Freischütz’, conducted by B. de Billy and staged by S. Ruzowitzky. Beside her operatic appearances Jaroslava Pepper is in demand as a Lied and oratorio singer
