Katharina Kratochwil

The former student at the MUK in Vienna has been demonstrating her skills as principal oboist in the Vienna Volksoper Orchestra since 2023. Born in Lower Austria in 1998, she honed her virtuoso skills as an Academy student with the Vienna Philharmonic and has performed with the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria.

Young oboe star

Katharina Kratochwil was born in Tulln an der Donau in 1998 and began her musical career with oboe lessons from Eva Griebl-Stich. After completing her bachelor's degree with Prof. Thomas Höniger, she is currently continuing her studies with Prof. Ernest Rombout and Prof. Harald Hörth.

She has attended various master classes with renowned musicians such as Mathilde Lebert, Ivan Podyomov, Gregor Witt, David Walter, Francoix Leleux and Albrecht Mayer.

Katharina Kratochwil gained professional experience as a substitute in numerous Viennese orchestras, including the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Volksoper Orchestra, the Vienna State Opera Orchestra and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. As a soloist she has performed with the Angelika Prokopp Summer Academy Orchestra, the Webern Symphony Orchestra and the Tonkünstler Orchestra Niederösterreich.

From September 2021 to June 2023 she was an Academy member of the Vienna Philharmonic. After winning an audition, Katharina Kratochwil has been solo oboist at the Vienna Volksoper since November 2023.
