Founding member of The Gesualdo Six
Michael Craddock is a founding member of the award-winning ensemble, The Gesualdo Six. By 2024, he will have performed in 100 concerts with the ensemble, as well as leading workshops and courses for amateur musicians and young ensembles.
Recent tours have taken the ensemble to the USA, Canada, Japan, China, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand, as well as Colombia. The ensemble also performs regularly in France, Germany and the Netherlands. Michael can be heard on all ten of the ensemble's CDs, which were recorded by Hyperion, and he has collaborated with artists such as Matilda Lloyd, the Brodsky Quartet, Odhecaton and the London Mozart Players.
After ten years with the Gesualdo Six, he left the ensemble in spring 2025 to focus on a broader spectrum of music-making and pursue more solo opportunities, as well as exploring collaborations that had previously taken a back seat due to the Gesualdo Six's busy schedule.
He regularly performs with the Choir of the London Oratory and has worked with groups such as the Dunedin Consort, the Sixteen, the Gabrieli Consort & Players, the Tallis Scholars, Arcangelo, Polyphony, the London Choral Sinfonia, the Ora Singers and the BBC Singers on an ad hoc basis.
In 2020, Helen Charlston, Alexander Soares and Michael conceived a project entitled The Isolation Songbook, for which they collaborated with 15 composers to create a selection of solo songs and duets responding to the lockdown caused by the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. They performed the project for the City Music Foundation in 2020 and recorded it for Delphian Records. In April 2021, it received Presto Classical's Editor's Choice award. His recital performances include the Oxford International Song Festival, performing Gurney's The Western Playland with the Bridge Quartet and Anna Tilbrook, and Schumann's Liederkreis (Op. 39) with Michael Dussek.
