mondo musicale

Mondo musicale has stood for musical diversity and the joy of singing since its founding in 1995. Established by Markus Zwitter and led by Miriam Ahrer since 2022, the approximately 50-member choir performs varied programmes ranging from a cappella works to major choral compositions and celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2025.

Diversity of voices and sounds

The diversity of sounds and musical worlds, together with a genuine joy and passion for singing, have been at the heart of mondo musicale since its foundation in 1995 by Markus Zwitter. These qualities have continued to flourish and deepen under the direction of Miriam Ahrer, who has led the choir since 2022.

The ensemble’s approximately fifty singers prepare several distinct concert programmes each year, ranging from a cappella repertoire to major works for choir and orchestra. Recent performances have included Johannes Brahms’ A German Requiem, Giacomo Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, and Ola Gjeilo’s Sunrise Mass.

In January of this year, mondo musicale celebrated its 30th anniversary with a major concert at the Minoriten Hall, presenting a cross-section of the choral repertoire performed over the past three decades. Most recently, the choir also took part in two performances of Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber’s monumental Baroque masterpiece Missa Salisburgensis under the overall direction of Josef M. Doeller.
