A symphony orchestra of highly qualified and enthusiastic young musicians: that's what Andrés Orozco-Estrada wanted from the Styriarte in 2021 - and that's what he got. Mei-Ann Chen is now taking this orchestra under her wing for the fourth year. The members of the Styriarte Youth Orchestra come from many different countries around the world and work on their programme in an orchestra camp lasting just under a week.

Association of the Highly Gifted

The Styriarte Youth Orchestra was formed for the first time in 2021 and at the request of Andrés Orozco-Estrada in order to create a very young, fresh ensemble for him and our audience to realise the project "Lust for Tchaikovsky". The call for proposals intended to bring together musicians living in Austria between the ages of 16 and 26, who had not yet established themselves professionally. The young musicians come from Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, Japan, Greece, Great Britain, Turkey, Colombia, Germany, Chile, Serbia, Italy, Hungary, Ukraine and Venezuela. The selection from the proposals was made by a jury of musicians from top Austrian orchestras together with Andrés Orozco-Estrada.

This orchestral project was relaunched in 2022; the chief conductor of the Recreation Orchestra, Mei-Ann Chen, a highly renowned conductor from Taiwan who lives in America, took over the baton and, after the Fantastischen Weltreise 2022 and Beethoven's Eroica for the Styriarte 23, followed by Antonin Dvořák's symphony From the New World 2024.
