About the artist
Arranger, composer, pianist and singer
Born in Lower Austria in 1974, Nikolaus Newerkla studied music education and concert piano at the University of Music in Graz with Eike Straub. Soon he also devoted himself - inspired by his long-time teacher, the organist and improviser Kurt Neuhauser - to historical keyboard instruments, especially the harpsichord. In addition to his activities as an arranger, composer, pianist and singer from pop music to classical music, he leads a chamber music class at the University of Music in Graz.
Nikolaus Newerkla is the founder and director of the Quadriga Consort, with which he has performed at renowned festivals and concert venues in many European countries and the USA. The ensemble soon specialized in popular early music from the British Isles, which Nikolaus Newerkla arranges for period instruments. By arranging numerous popular dance tunes and songs for original sound instruments, Nikolaus Newerkla has gained an international reputation as an arranger and publisher.
