Ārt House 17 at Planetensaal in Schloss Eggenberg, Styriarte 2023
Diving deep into historical music and its history(ies): That is the mission of the young Graz-based ensemble Ārt House 17, for which Michael Hell and Georg Kroneis have brought together some of the best specialists in their field. Their repertoire ranges from Pergolesi to Mozart and Offenbach. The ensemble is currently establishing itself internationally and is celebrating huge successes at the Utrecht Early Music Festival, for example.

Ārt House 17 is a newly founded ensemble established by Michael Hell and Georg Kroneis, with the aim of exploring historically informed performance practice in its broadest sense.
Artistic Focus
For Ārt House 17, historical performance practice is about far more than period instruments. At its heart lie the meaning and context of the music, and the question of what it has to say to us today.
The ensemble is part of the Graz-based Ārt House collective, whose projects include the interactive music theatre production Arrived, developed for the Jacques Offenbach Festival in Cologne; a reinterpretation of the Antonia act from The Tales of Hoffmann for German radio station Deutschlandfunk; and a COVID-era adaptation of Mozart’s Così fan tutte, presented in Lockenhaus during the summer of 2020.
Following its production of Il Ciarlatano at Styriarte 2021, Ārt House 17 brought a queer staging of Bach’s Coffee Cantata to the stage of Graz’s Seifenfabrik in 2022.
At Styriarte 2024, the ensemble joined forces with sand artist Natalia Moro to transform Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo into a unique experience. In 2025, they celebrated the 400th anniversary of Eggenberg Palace with Antonio Draghi’s ballet opera Das verwunschene Glück.
