Philipp Schöllhorn will perform at Styriarte for the first time in 2026
Moving effortlessly between opera and the concert stage, bass-baritone Philipp Schöllhorn captivates audiences with the richness and versatility of his voice. Trained by the Freiburger Domsingknaben, the Vienna Boys' Choir, and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw), he has appeared at distinguished opera houses and leading concert halls. His repertoire embraces the great oratorios alongside the masterpieces of the operatic repertoire.

The bass-baritone Philipp Schöllhorn, who has Styrian roots, received his early musical training with the Freiburg Cathedral Boys’ Choir and the Vienna Boys’ Choir. He went on to study singing at the MdW and completed his Master’s degree under Prof. Hanser with distinction in 2024. He won the Musica Juventutis and “ZukunftsStimmen” singing competitions. A particular highlight for him was performing alongside Elīna Garanča as a prize-winner.
Philipp Schöllhorn made his opera debut in 2022 at the Salzburg Landestheater as Sarastro in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, with which he was associated for two seasons. In Verdi’s La Traviata, he appeared as the Marchese D’Obigny at the Burg Gars Opera Festival in 2025. Guest engagements followed, including at the Theater an der Wien as the Investigating Judge and Uncle Albert in Gottfried von Einem’s Der Prozess, directed by Stefan Herheim.
In the concert arena, Philipp Schöllhorn performs the title roles in Mendelssohn’s oratorios Elijah and Paul, Haydn’s The Creation, The Seasons and Stabat Mater, Bach’s St John Passion and Christmas Oratorio, Handel’s Messiah, the “Requiem” by Brahms, Mozart, Verdi and Dvořák, and can be heard performing in venues such as the Elbphilharmonie and the Vienna Konzerthaus. At the 2024 Salzburg Festival, he sang in a concert version of “Capriccio” conducted by Christian Thielemann.
