Vibke Andersen

Born in Norway, Vibeke Andersen studied interior and furniture design in Bergen and stage design in Graz and Berlin. She then worked for theatre, film and TV as a set and costume designer. Since moving to Austria she has been working in the areas of dance, opera and theatre.

Set designer for dance, opera and drama

Norwegian-born Vibeke Andersen studied interior architecture and furniture design at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Bergen (Norway), stage design at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz and at the Kunsthochschule in Berlin Weißensee.

After graduating, she worked for several years in Germany in the fields of theater, film and television as a stage and costume designer and as an exhibition designer (Academy of Arts Berlin, Berliner Ensemble, Theater Oberhausen, Pocket Opera Company Nuremberg, film and television).

After a move to Austria in 1999, design work for dance, opera and drama took place for the Graz Opera, the National Theatre Maribor, Schauspielhaus Graz, dramagraz, Volkstheater Vienna, the Chamber Opera of Theater an der Wien, for the James Wilton Dance Company in the UK and for the Bregenz Festival. In 2019 Vibeke Andersen received the Ernst Binder scholarship.
