virtuoso baroque arias by Handel and Gluck

For the castrato singers of the 18th century, the pleasure of the audience was the burden they carried all their life. Samuel Mariño from Venezuela, however, is a natural soprano. Since his voice never broke, he scales with ease the same heights his predecessors reached, even in female roles like the desperate Princess Berenice in Gluck’s Antigono. Handel’s wonderful arias for the castrato Gizziello are another specialty of the young singer from Latin America.

“I think we Venezuelans are a kind of baroque people. We are so spontaneous and so different from each other. My love for baroque music also has to do with who I am.”

The performance lasts 60-70 minutes without an interval.
