Georg Philipp Telemann: Flute quartet in G major, TWV 43:G12 / Flute concerto in D major, TWV 51:D2
“Gulliver’s Travels” and Introduzzione in A major from “Der getreue Music-Meister” / Paris quartet in A minor
Reading from: Die Autobiographie des Georg Philipp Telemann in: Johann Mattheson, Grundlage einer Ehren-Pforte, Hamburg 1740
He was the friendly, brilliant, humorous spirit among the composers of a chivalrous time, always keen on entertaining his audience and not pestering the musicians with arduous scores. The melodies just happened to fall into the lap of Telemann, the musician from Magdeburg. He told the story of how it all came about in his autobiography from 1740. Despite some resentment in his family, he followed his calling to become a musician and brought 60 years of unclouded happiness to his contemporaries, just like Jed Wentz and his ensemble Musica ad Rhenum will do at the Helmut List Halle. Each Telemann composition in this SOAP is an earworm!
