Monica Piccinini

sporano

Her intimately flowing, gently glowing voice is one of the most beautiful you could imagine for the affect songs of Monteverdi, Pergolesi or Handel. No wonder that Monica Piccinini's lyric soprano is not only acclaimed at Italy's great houses and highly esteemed by stars such as Jordi Savall or Fabio Biondi.

Marianne Beate Kielland

Mezzo-soprano

The Norwegian Marianne Beate Kielland is a sought-after interpreter of baroque opera roles and has already been nominated for a US Grammy in the category "Best Vocal Classical Album”. She is one of the leading mezzo-sopranos in Europe and is invited, for example to the Philharmonie Köln as a Lied singer.

Rafał Tomkiewicz

Countertenor

Award-winning, the countertenor from Warsaw has already delivered brilliant performances of works by Handel, Vivaldi and Cavalli. He is also a welcome guest in Austria and performs on stages such as those of the Theater an der Wien and the Vienna Chamber Opera.

Valerio Contaldo

Tenor

Born in Italy, he initially studied classical guitar before dedicating himself to singing at the Lausanne Conservatory. Our Styriarte visitors have already been able to experience the charismatic tenor at four Fux Opera Festivals. With opera roles and concert roles from Monteverdi to Frank Martin, Valerio Contaldo has delighted audiences from Tokyo to Aix-en-Provence.

Zefiro Baroque Orchestra

Baroque Oorchestra

The top Italian ensemble is one of the Styriarte's closest friends - it is impossible to imagine our season-long project of rediscovering Fux's operatic jewels without it. Zefiro concentrates on the music of the 18th century and is considered a worldwide reference especially in the concert repertoire with solo wind instruments.

Alfredo Bernardini

Oboist & Conductor

His incredibly lively and sonorous performing has made the Roman Alfredo Bernardini the leading baroque oboist of our time. As a soloist and conductor, he appears worldwide with top ensembles such as Hespèrion XXI or the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra. His own ensemble Zefiro is also a celebrated public favourite at the Styriarte festival.

János Mischuretz

Actor

Born in Budapest, he lives and works in Graz and is a true jack-of-all-trades. As a singer, actor, cabaret artist, presenter and narrator, he is equally at home on operetta stages as on theatre boards, he sings and plays at the Graz Opera and at the Next Liberty, and for years he gave the Graz opera stage show a very special touch with his sparkling charm.

Wolfgang Atzenhofer

Regisseur

A great evening of baroque opera

Here they are again – the wonderful voices of the Graz Fux Ensemble! This year they face a particularly daunting task – saving Rome from the invasion of the Etruscans, the subject of Fux’s most monumental opera “Constanza e Fortezza”, performed in Prague in 1723. Alfredo Bernardini conducts a number of excerpts featuring all the superheroes of the Roman Republic. Cloelia plunges fearlessly into the waves of the Tiber. Horatius defends the bridge to Rome single-handed. Mucius puts his hand in the fire. Plenty of scope for a great evening of Baroque opera with the sparkling, authentic sound of Zefiro – a concertante performance in costume.
