Concertmaster Wolfgang Redik

Concertmaster Wolfgang Redik spielt Violine Wolfgang Redik plays Schubert alla Mahler and presents the great Bildnis von Felix Mendelssohn im Grazer Stefaniensaal Felix Mendelssohn with the early D minor Concerto.

Schubert à la Mahler

The adagietto from Mahler’s 5th and Schubert’s great Quartet in D minor have one thing in common: we inevitably associate them with images of end time and death, “Death in Venice” and “Death and the Maiden”. And yet Mahler intended the adagietto as a declaration of his love for Alma Schindler and his arrangement of Schubert’s quartet as a demonstration of the vital energy of a string quartet. Wolfgang Redik plays Schubert à la Mahler with the Recreation strings and delivers a brilliant performance as soloist in Mendelssohn’s early Concerto in D minor.

Felix Mendelssohn: Violin concerto in d minor
Gustav Mahler: Adagietto from Symphony No. 5
Franz Schubert: Der Tod und das Mädchen (The Death and the Maiden) (arranged for string orchestra by Gustav Mahler)

Recreation - Das Orchester

Recreation is special in many ways: consisting of musicians whose nationalities range from Japan to Venezuela, most of the members received part of their training in Graz. After its formation in 2002, the collective played unique halls such as the Alte Oper Frankfurt and worked with outstanding conductors.

Wolfgang Redik

The violinist from Graz has a soft spot for chamber music and demonstrates real qualities when he leads an entire orchestra as concertmaster.
