musical dialogue

Creole music in dialogue with music from Africa, America and the Caribbean (1440–1880)

400 years of cultural exchange between Africa and the New World are reflected in the word “Creole”. Jordi Savall found inspiration in this for his biggest and most far-reaching world music panorama to date. For the Portuguese of 1500, Creoles were quite simply the offspring of interracial marriages between their colonialists and African women on the west coast of Africa. Today the word signifies a language in its own right, many styles of music and a sense of self-confidence in the dialogue between continents. The wizard of early music gathers togther more than 30 musicians to promote their blend of African and American music: from Canada to the Caribbean, from Cuba to Brazil, from Mali to Mexico.

Jordi Savall

Viola da Gamba & Conductor

There is no early music fan who does not know the name Jordi Savall. There is no award that the "Ambassador of the European Union for Cultural Dialogue" has not won in the course of his world career. So it is all the more enjoyable that the Catalan, born in 1941, has been one of the Styriarte's closest and most loyal friends for decades.
